What do I need to do/buy to be able to transmit 1080p video files to a non smart tv?

Okay, here's the deal. I've got a non-smart tv downstairs, and I'd like to play a bunch of 1080p files or things of that ilk from my PC. I've gotten a long HDMI cable in the past, but since the PC has been moved to a different room, it is no longer long enough.

I'd like to know what I could do to get these files to the TV. I've heard of chromecast, is it cabable of this? Do I have many options? I've looked into using games consoles, but they seem to be a wash, not supporting a bunch of codecs like .mkv's.

Solution
A media player like a Roku would be one answer. BUT, playing 1080p files requires a good network. Using 2.4Ghz WIFI for any of the connections is iffy.
