What happens if i plug my usb cable into a computer

Hello,
I was trying to get my videos from my kodak play touch onto my pc. I connected the cable to the computer and then the usb port. When it wouldn't work, I saw in the handbook "warning: do not plug this into the computer!" (was for the charger only, I'm guessing) have I ruined something?
