I know I'm not the one you responded to, but I owned the ATH M50s for some time, and I currently have the DT 770s right now. The 770s are more "punchy" with their sound which makes them more "fun". I also think the audio has more depth when compared to the ATH M50s. Keep in mind the DT770s are more expensive than the ATH M50s, so for the extra money you get slightly better sound, but much better build quality. You cant go wrong with either pair.

One think to keep in mind with the 770s is, where will you be plugging them into? They come in 32ohm 80ohm and 250ohm variants. If you go for anything other than the 32ohm, you should plug them into an amp. I have the 32ohm...

What I suggest for your Need is for that range of budget, I suggest Audio-Technica ATH-M50 because:

1: It provide perfect sound quality: not too base heavy or pitch high.
2: Very comfortable and very well built quality
3: under $150.

if you have more money to spend, sennheiser HD series are good too but still prefer AudioTechnica cuz I own ATH-M50 Myself.

Are you doing analytic work? (I,E, are you making music/movies or enjoying them?) I have heard that the AKG headphones are tuned more towards analytic listening. A good open pair of headphones like the Sennheiser HD558/598s or Beyerdynamic DT 880 Premiums would be nice for watching movies or listening to music due to their open design and low weight.

The ATH M50 is a great choice as listed above. They are excellent headphones at an attractive pricepoint. I would just recommend open headphones because they have a larger soundstage (depth). If you live in a noisy area or dont want to bother others, the ATH M50s or Beyerdynamic DT770 Pros would be good closed headphones.

Overall, you spend more, you get more. If you wanna save money, go with the ATH M50s. If you are willing to spend a little more, the DT 770s will give you a little more.

I see the 32ohms on amazon right now for $249. I don't know if you're in the united states though. Headphone pricing and availability is odd. Right now they are $249 on amazon, but last year I bought mine for $189 on amazon. High end headphones fluctuate in price often.
You could try ebay as well.
