I am an aspiring engineer (still in school) and want to learn how to code and use computer aided design. However, I do not know how to do this and do not know what programmes to start with. could you please recommend me with some programmes to start learning coding and computer aided design and where to get them (I live in the UK)

For a top level free IDE, Visual Studio Express.

For CAD, your best bets are FreeCAD and LibreCAD (see links below). However, the question is, "which programming language(s) do you intend to develop in?" Assuming you use Windows (7/8/8.1/10), then, I definitely agree with USAFRet in recommending Visual Studio or -- as an alternative -- Eclipse.

{*} FreeBAD: http://www.freecadweb.org
{*} Eclipse IDE: https://eclipse.org/downloads/
