What is causing static in one of my Klipsch Heresies?

I have an old pair of Klipsch Heresies driven by a new Rotel RA-12. I use a USB connection to play music from my Mac. This morning, when I adjusted the volume, I received static from one of the speakers - this is new and has never happened before. I moved the connections from the A pair to the B pair in the amp and the static remained. It only makes static when I adjust the volume. Any advice would be appreciated!

most likely the volume knob is wearing out seen this happen in older amps. Not that yours is old. Give this a read.
