Well, $1,500 for a laptop to play the Sims 4 is definitely overkill. You can buy a laptop capable of playing the Sims 4 pretty well for less than half the cost.
Do you have any specific preference about the laptop itself? Like high build quality, lightweight, aluminum chassis? Is a laptop with the typical durable plastic chassis okay? Do you want a backlit keyboard (see the keys in the dark)? Do you want a "discrete looking" laptop that you can bring to work without hinting to other people that you like to play PC games?
The above recommended CUK MSI 17.3" laptop can certainly play the Sims 4 without any problems. But it is a big and heavy laptop. The nVidia GTX 970 is certainly a pretty powerful mobile graphics chip (GPU), but it is way overkill for the Sims 4... unless there are other games that are graphically demanding that you want to play.
The Acer Aspire E E5-573G-52G3 for $500 will be able to play the Sims 4 and it's expansions. The dual Core i5-5200u and nVidia 940m are far less powerful than what is in the CUK MSI 17.3" laptop, but adequate enough for the game. However, Acer laptops have a reputation for only making average quality laptops, but they are in the middle of changing that image with their more expensive laptops. Acer kinda relies on low price points to sell some of their laptops.

Asus X555UB-NS71 for $699. Basically similar to the above Acer laptop, but with a slightly newer and more powerful Core i7-6500u CPU. Overall, Asus is known for making good quality laptops, but are still considered affordable.

The 15.6" Lenovo IdeaPad Y700 is an affordable gaming laptop that starts at $900. At that price you get a quad core i7-6700HQ and nVidia GTX 960m and a standard 1TB hard drive. More expensive ones includes a 128GB SSD (solid state drive) with read / write speed much higher than a hard drive. It is definitely capable of running the Sims 4 very smoothly on high settings.

The 15.6" Dell XPS 15 (excluding the least expensive $999 version) is also more than capable of playing the Sims 4, but you need to look at the $1,199 model. It's aluminum chassis give it a nice fit and finish and can pass as a "business laptop". It's Infinity Display means the bezel around the screen is pretty narrow making the laptop to be about the same size as an average 14" laptop. That means it is relatively light at just under 4lbs. (the other laptops I linked above are over 5lbs.). It has a quad core i5-6300HQ CPU and a nVidia GTX 960m which means it is definitely more than capable of running the Sims 4 and all it the expansions.

These are just examples of what is out there with a budget of up to $1,500.
