I'm looking at getting a laptop or surface pro 4. Was wondering if any of you guys would be able to assist me in the kind of specs I should look at.

The use cases will be:
- running solidworks for my dissertation to model components etc
- running some emulation for on the go nostalgia gaming
- playing the occasional game like civ, tropico, lego games

The most demanding game would probably be something like anno 2070 or dragonball xenoverse

I'd like to spend as little as possible but getting the most performance possible, and for this kind of usecase would something like a GTX 950M be a sensible choice or could I get away with integrated graphics on either side.

Solution
For mostly solidworks, get a workstation laptop with a pro level video card not a gaming card.

Lenovo W, HP Z Book, Dell Precision models. Will be about the cost of a decent gaming laptop, $1,200 or so.
