I recently upgraded from my toshiba qosmio 3dv80 to a desktop. Is there something I can do with the laptop while I'm not using to make it useful? I've tried SETI@home but is there something other than that that I could do with it?

Well I still will need it for school and stuff like that, I was just wondering if there was something I could do to make it useful when I'm not using it

you want suggestions to put your laptop to some use, yet you already use it for school work and places where your desktop isn't. there you go, you answered your own question.
but you want to use it for more, something like SETI. there you go again, you answered your own question.

good grief, what else do you want to use an already useful laptop for? is 3 uses not enough to justify having it?
how about folding@home? run your own private "cloud"? porn?

- HTPC
- Get an external drive or two, and use it as a backup device
- experiment with different OS's (Linux, etc)
- turn the webcam into a time lapse camera, and make movies
- use it as a really bad Frisbee

Use it in a distributed computing project on the GPU as well as the CPU. Make it work to earn it's keep! Just be sure to dust it out every month or two.

I've been running seti@home on my G50VT-x6 on my GPU and CPU cores for years now with zero stability problems.
