What to set up to get TV sound from Home theatre

Hi there, I am frustraited can somebody please help me to set up my TV or HT box? I bought HT and tried to connect to my TV. all speakers works while I play blue ray or listnen to the radio. I do have al cables in the right place as well. I cannot get the sund through the speakers while I watch tv...i turn off internal speakers on tv, seems like i am missing something, like i need to change something to get the sound out...please advise, i would love to make it work for this evening...i spend so much money that i expected that work!!! ;(
