Which Computer Build is better with a $1200 budget?

I am trying to build a PC when black friday comes around. Right now i have some specifics of what i want in my PC but I don't know which components should be better for gaming.

General items:
MSI Z97 Gaming 5 (Motherboard)
16GB 2X8 (RAM)
1TB HDD
Computer Case
Windows 10
80+ Bronze 750W PSU
1920X1080 Monitor
Logitech G105 Keyboard

Where I am debating:
i7-4790K CPU
R9 290X GPU
Samsung 850 250GB SSD

vs.

i5-4690K
GeForce GTX 980

Both of them come out to around $1200+ monitor and tax I just want to know which set up would be better for gaming. Also if you guys know which computer components have a good price drop during black friday and around how much they will be that would be great! I am looking forward to the total price dropping between $1000 and $1100. If my expectations are too high for the price drop please let me know!
