Im trying to help my brother out with a new gaming laptop. We have minimal room space so gaming laptops is all we can manage atm. I have a now 5 year old clevo model that still going strong and hes found a similair one that he likes. But ive also found a slightly lesser cpu asus but with a better gpu fr 60 quid more. Just like to know which one people would argue is better, games to be played are things like total war, WoW, Siege, Divinity etc

the 'M' versions are always cut down versions of their desktop counterparts. The GTX980 desktop version would hold it's own against the newer GTX1060, but the mobile variant is not as good as either desktop parts. Still capable though, plus it's the 8gb version too, so I'd still go with the first option.

the first one for me wins hands down. Better CPU, more ram, and the GTX980 is as good as the GTX1060 (they trade blows with each other, game dependant)

edit: just noticed the 980 is a mobile variant. And while it's still a good gaming GPU, it probably has less performance than the GTX1060 6gb in this case. Still, the proc and the ram swing it for me, so i'd still take the first one.

thats what I was thinking. Its a hard choice be much easier if the 1060 had the i7 haha (its a 980m btw not a desktop 980)

the 980m is stronger than a desktop 1060?? I know its performs better than a 1050 and 1050ti but never seen benches that show higher than a 1060
