why do i download stuff but appear as a shortcut on my laptop

my laptop (acer) everytime i download something its either appear as a shortcut on my desktop or i find it under program and features.
can someone help me in resolving the issue

You have to specifiy your preferred download location in your web browser settings, then they will always be in the same place.
