why isnt my Dell laptop logging me into my account?

When I open up my Dell computer it sends me straight to the log in screen for my user. I type in the CORRECT password and it says it has failed. It says my pc isn't working and I should go to account.live.com or type in the previous password you used for this, but that's the first password I've had. Account.live hasn't done any good, and I don't want to break/buy a brand new laptop. What should I do?
