"I want to replace the stock hard drive (crashed) with the fastest and largest capacity hdd it can hold"

You haven't mentioned price? I'm going to presume you know that SSD are the fastest by far but you're ruling them out because of price? - they do get expensive as the capacity goes up.

You might want to consider an hybrid drive. With them you would get the blazing fast SSD speeds on frequently used programs (including Win boot-up) and the large capacity of a standard hard drive. For $60 you can get a 1 TB

For $95 you can get a 2 TB (I'm been thinking about ordering this one)...

Do you really need that much space (1tb)? SSD is so much faster and your motherboard supports ata-300 meaning you dont get full 6gb/s but 3gb/s which is still alot faster than any mechanical HDD.
