I played 3D gaming when UT2003 first came out and it was awesome! I got fragged so many times because I would just stand there admiring the scenery. I would fire a rocket and just move from side to side to look around the smoke trail and then i would get woken up very quickly with a rocket up the bum! 3D gaming was seriously good. I was playing with LCD glasses on a CRT monitor - then came stupid LCD screens and 3D gaming was stopped in its tracks. Its only now picking up again - nearly 5+ years later. the movie industry is always lagging the Pc industry - lets face it - we game on resolutions way better than silly 1080! Let the gaming industry set the standard

"As I learned from other attendees, shutter glasses may yet win out. In Europe, for example, Volfoni, the largest manufacturer of 3D glasses, makes shutter glasses, while theaters in the UK all use them."

Rubbish. All 3D films in cinemas in the UK use polarised glasses. 80p on the cinema ticket per pair, still have mine from Bolt and Avatar. Polarised is the way forward, LG are releasing the only polarised LCD TV I know the of, the LD950, shortly depending on cost I'm seriously considering it. Supposed to be compatible with all 3D blueray players and Sky's 3D channel, just want it confirmed that it will work with PS3.....

Until they invent some kind of holographic projectors that project the imagery in the air with realistic quality - I'm out!

😀 That kind of 3d gimmicks as of now would not last long. But 3D sounds cool. All companies are jumping the wagon because they know they could make the customers pay more.
And the truth is that movies and games in recent years a plagued by complete lack of ideas and originality. They've become so boring and unappealing that I've almost stopped watching new movies and playing new games.

Its interesting that the writers of these articles never do significant research past the company reps. I have an iZ3D and the 3D effect is quite impressive. For fast action FPS games it isn't so much a help but tremendous eye candy - atleast as significant as stereo sound over mono!

The down side with iZ3D which the company never tells reviewers is that it won't take advantage of SLI or Crossfire. So you are limited to a single GPU = slow framerates.

To those ppl talking about the glassless tech out there. The downside to this is that you need to be in a sweet spot (or one of several sweet spots) for this to work. When you have a small screen like the up comming nintendo product, this works fine as the small screen allows for a great amout of head movement b4 you lose a sweet spot, but as far as I understand, it does not work so well for larger screens with current methods. The scope of this discussion seems to be to argue the merits of the two currently prevailing techs (shutter vs polarised), but if you ask me, it should be stereoscopic head mounted displays with motion tracking all the way for gaming, and sans motiontracking for movies. Imagine being able to take a pair of goggles with ear phones, plug them into your small pocket device and watch the equivelant of a movie theater size screen in full 3d and be able to do this everywhere, planes, hotels or even in bed. For gaming you would cover your entire periferal vision and include motion tracking... this n my opinion would be the ultimate.

Can i play 3D games with polarized technology? I would like to acquire an LG polarized system TV to do it. Is polarized technology good for 3D games?
