Its an Asus G2SG-A1.

It was from 2008 but is it still a good laptop?

T9300 Duo 2 core CPU 2.5GHz
4 gigs of ram
300 gig HD 5400
nvidia graphics 2 an amazing 1920x1200 17" screen

Its really cheap and all I play is FSX. Do you think it will play it well?

It also comes with a gaming mouse and backpack.

If I can, I'll upgrade the RAM

FSX is a more demanding game than the minimum requirements would have you believe. It really needs a highly clocked quad core CPU to run well. I think that laptop will play it but I would not expect it to run great with a dual core CPU and integrated graphics.

if all you're playing on it is FSX it will be fine for everything else (office, web/e-mail, etc...) but if you get into more modern games you may run into issues..

that proves nothing but a cpu dependent game and the cpu he has is not good at all. going from extreme low res to high res with NO fps drop proves that the cpu that they were using can not keep up with the gpu and ill venture to guess that they were using a desktop cpu so to say that his laptop cpu will be able to achieve 20 fps is a stretch.

Test setup uses a Core2 Extreme X6800 2.93ghz that is about half again as powerful as a dual core mobile T9300.......the game is extremely CPU dependent and was one of the first games to make use of quad core CPUs.

The 8700M GT would perform somewhere between the desktop 8600 GT and 8500 GT, probably close to the 8500GT.

That's the GPU alone.
As anort3 points out a different CPU was being used and FSX is heavily CPU dependent.

If I am not wrong the G1 had a 8500M and a 1920x1200 screen and the G2 had 8700M in the beginning and a 9500M (?) in their later refresh. But both G2s didn't have the 1920x1200 resolution. So there is a change that the OP has mixed up things here.

Anyway I used to play FEAR in ASUS G1 at about ~30fps in native resolution. So it should be able to handle FSX.
