windows 8 cant pick up a wifi network

The operating system generally has very little to do with picking up networks(while it has a connection manager, it just talks to the wireless card it self).

Please ensure you have the latest drivers(this may require a wired connection or another system and a flash drive/cd/dvd/ect).

Sometimes a key combination or button on the computer turns the wireless radio on and off. Please check for this.

If your network happens to have SSID broadcast turned off, you will have to manually enter that information to connect the first time. From them on your system would call out for the network(to see when it is in range) instead of listening for the network(with SSIS broadcast the access point/router will call out its name so systems know they are in range) to call out to it.
