Hello I'm making a computer. (fingers crossed) And I can't decide which windows I should buy. Ik that windows 8 and windows 7 are the newest but i can't find alot of info on them. Im thinking of Windows 7, 8, vista, and XP. I'm going to play games like Arma 2, Minecraft, Rome Total War etc.

The os needs to play these games but I'm stuck with this. Which OS is fastest? Can I get them on a usb drive? What's the difference between getting Windows 7 ultimate vs Windows 7 home premium. Windows vista pro vs vista normal etc. I looked on amazon and basically they were all around 100$ (Except for the Windows 7 "upgraded" edition)

Thanks in advance :)

Solution
Don't get Windows XP, it is being discontinued next year, so any exploits that come out will not be fixed. You'll be entirely vulnerable to OS exploits.

Get either Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Windows 7 Pro allows you to enable a "Windows XP Mode" to run Windows XP only programs, backup to a network drive and connect to workgroups.

Windows 7 Ultimate allows you to do all that Pro allows, plus encrypting volumes and changing between all 35 different OS languages without reformatting.

I'd go for Windows 7 Home Premium if I were you, as I really doubt you'll be using any of the unique features of the other versions, and I personally do not like Windows 8 that much.
Win 7 or 8. Ignore Vista and XP.
You do not need Win7 Ultimate. (And it is much more than $100)
Windows 7 Home Premium, or Windows 8.
Personally, I prefer Windows 8. YMMV.

And if you "can't find a lot of info" on Windows 7 or 8, you're not looking very hard.

Can you show me the cheapest place to get windows 7 or 8?

Cheapest, or cheapest legal?
Microsoft generally sets the price. Some major retailer may have it on sale this week, but otherwise...significantly cheaper = not legit.

You can probably find the cheapest (legally) by searching around in international stores and taking into account currencies: something might cost less when converted into your currency because currency values fluctuate. I really doubt you'll save more than 5$ though, and you might not have any gains at all if you're charged conversion fees.

1. Amazon reseller - Half step above ebay
2. Windows Vista
3. Vista Ultimate for $50? Really...
