Windows Explorer, IE keeps restarting

Hi all,

Need abit of help with my dad's laptop, his Internet Explorer stopped working recently and now it crashes anytime he open's it, even though he uses Chrome now I still would like to know what's making this happen.

Also his Windows Explorer crashes all the time too, mainly on Control Panel if I want to uninstall a program or to view Action Center etc it says it's stopped working and needs to restart.

I've scanned the laptop etc to see if it was a virus related problem but it isn't so I don't know what problem could be.

Any solutions?

almost certainly an addin of some description..
reset IE..
Tools -> internet options --> advanced --> reset

And tell you dad to not click random stuff
