Windows recognizing headset speakers but not microphone.

So I've been using my Xbox One ready headset since around Christmas and just found out that all this time Windows has been my webcam mic instead. Which wouldn't be a big deal...But it doesn't recognize that my headset has a functioning mic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check for a mic on/off switch/button on your headphone. Some has this nifty thing.

right click on speaker icon on the task bar and select recording devices. See whether your Mic is listed under that. If so select it as default device. You are good to go.
