Question Wired Mouse not working with macbook air when plugged into a USB hub

I have a wired Macally mouse that I use with my Macbook Air. When I plug it into the Macbook it works fine, but when I plug it into the USB hub, it stops working. When I need to charge my computer I can't have the mouse plugged in.

I bought a cheap hub, and would be happy to upgrade if that is the issue, but I don't know anything about them, so would love some input on that as well.

I tried a logitech wireless mouse, but it kept jumping around the screen. Not sure why. Maybe because I was also using a wireless keyboard?
