Hi All!

I am looking to buy a new laptop and have picked out these 2 HP's:
1. http://h20386.www2.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=C2B71EA&opt=ABU&sel=PCNB
2. http://h20386.www2.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=ECC_BUNDLE_3767248&opt=&sel=PCNB

My question is this: obviously both of the laptops are very similar and they only differ in processor (1 has the Intel® Core™ i3-2370M and 2 has the Intel® Core™ i5-3210M) and RAM (1 has 6GB and 2 has 8GB) therefore, do you think it is worth spending an extra £100 on 2 (with the i5 and 8gb) over 1, and how much difference will having the i5 and extra RAM make? I really didn't want to go over the £575 mark but if its worth it I would consider spending more.

Thanks

Sorry, should have specified that originally! :heink:

I plan on using it for some gaming, I'm not bothered about getting the highest specs but I do think I will game reasonably frequently on it. Other than that just surfing, uni work and watching videos/playing music

Ok well since the I5 version is almost identical to the I3 an except for 100MHz faster clock.

Get the I3, if the I5 was a quad core then its worth the money, but it is not.

You will see little to no difference between the 2 laptops, even considering the RAM.

Okay, thanks that seems pretty reasonable.

Just out of interest what would I had to of said my uses were to make you advise the i5 version instead?

Good question, no reason. LOL its become a standard response on forums. It clarifies a few things.

I actually just wanted to confirm you will be gaming with this laptop or the discreet graphics would have been an unnecessary added cost that you could avoid.

Hi, just realised that there is a student store at hp and it gives me effectively £100 off. So now that's the case, do you think it's worth spending the money on the i5 at £550, or just saving myself £100 and getting the i3 still!?

Still not worth it, like I said, no difference between the w PCU but 100MHz. Thats not worth 100 bucks no matter what. You can add 2 GB RAM for like 20 bucks.
