[citation][nom]molo9000[/nom]Current chargers use about 5watts and an iPhone battery holds about 5watthours.Even tripling the power consumption would not have any significant impact on your electricity bill or the world's climate.Nobody said that "a new way of charging" means conventional induction charging. Some people suggest they might use "resonant inductive coupling", which would allow energy transfer over a distance of several meters.I don't see the point though. Nothing wrong with using a cable.[/citation]
All the little things add up. How many iPhones are out there and how many will there be 4 or 5 years from now? All of those wirelessly charging devices would consume a lot of power together.
This is the same mentality as "its just a dollar, it won't break you", but when you add up all the dollars you spend because its "just a dollar" it ends up being quite a lot!
You can also bet that as soon as Apple does it, a thousand other companies will feel they have to do it.
