I'm looking to buy an MSI GT72 Dominator laptop from Xotic PC, and I want it to have a SSD. The cheapest option Xotic PC has is a stock 128GB SSD with no brand name or performance specs listed. I'm wondering if anyone knows what kind of performance I could expect from these stock drives, and if I would be better off shelling out a few more bucks for a brand-name drive. Thanks for any info.

Here's the specs on the laptop I'm looking at:

- 17.3" FHD 16:9 IPS Matte Type Anti-Glare Screen (1920x1080)
- 5th Generation Intel® Broadwell™ i7-5700HQ (2.7GHz - 3.5GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache)
- IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU (Cools better than all Compounds) (XPC Service)
- NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 970M (3.0GB) GDDR5 PCI-Express DX11 (Maxwell) w/ Optimus™ Technology
- 16GB DDR3 1600MHz [SKU-824P] (Dual Channel Memory (2x8GB SODIMMS)) - Default
- mSATA Option: Operating System Installed [Default] w/ mSATA(s) selected below
- 1 128GB Solid State Drive [M.2] mSATA
- 2 No M.2 mSATA Drive
- 3 No M.2 mSATA Drive
- 4 No M.2 mSATA Drive
- 1TB 7200RPM (SATA III - 6GB/s) - Default (SKU - HDD025)
- Slim - 8x Super Multi DVDRW/CDRW Combo Drive (Dual Layer w/ Software) (SKU - ODD046)
- Bigfoot Networks Killer™ Dual Band Wireless-AC N1525 - 802.11 AC/A/B/G/N Wireless LAN Module + Bluetooth 4.0 [M.2 Chip] - Default (SKU - WIFI74)

And the SSD options they have available, with the prices listed in parentheses:

- 128GB Solid State Drive [M.2] mSATA ( + 79 )
- 128GB Micron M600 Solid State Drive [M.2] mSATA (Read 560MB/s - Write 510MB/s) ( + 99 )

- 128GB ADATA Solid State Drive [M.2] mSATA (Read 550MB/s - Write 530MB/s) ( + 109 )
- 180GB Intel 530 Solid State Drive [M.2] mSATA (Read 540MB/s - Write 490MB/s) ( + 135 )
- 256GB ADATA Solid State Drive [M.2] mSATA (Read 550MB/s - Write 530MB/s) ( + 169 )

Solution
I'd check with them and find out, since there is no name or specs listed, they are the only ones that would know what speeds it is. It will be faster than the regular hard drive by quite a bit though.

I would go to a larger SSD, if you want to get the best use out of it, you'd want programs installed on it also for fast loading, and games are pretty large these days.
