The display just shows you what is happening, you can do the proper button presses without it. Although a factory reset won't get the display working unless it was somehow dimmed to nothing by accident if that is what you think will happen.

Thanks. To do the factory reset you need to be able to see the screen or at least know what order to press the buttons. Factory reset is my last attempt at sorting it before sending it for repair

Right, you don't need the screen to do the restore, look up how to do the reset and just follow the directions, see what happens.
