Virus programmers should be caught and probed anally once for every infection with an STD infested toy.

Maybe then they'll cut the shit and do something useful with their lives...

[citation][nom]eyefinity[/nom]It's the anti-virus companies who make them.[/citation]

Actually, most of the time its organized crime. They just hold up in countries where the law is pretty much in their pocket.

Antivirus companies don't need to create viruses, the damage to one's reputation and to antivirus companies in general would be too massive to risk.

Here in the US, you would be very suprised. I have had one too many customers tell me that when they declined to renew their AV subscription from one of the larger AV companies, they instantly got multiple infections that were not sever but more of an annoyance.

And it also make you wonder why the free AV programs tend to actually work better than the pay for ones.

Yes it's organised crime, you just didn't figure out who the real criminals are yet.

I love saying this...

10+ years virus free...
No AV software, or Malware Software
Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock
Safe surfing and email habits
GASP! Windows... always fully patched
NAT helps too (I throw this one in just to upset the "NAT IS NOT A FIREWALL" crowd)

Wow, thats is a real bummer! I have a dream of a day when all tech users can live in harmony and not have to fear being infeced by some deviously written software.

But seriously, I am getting sick and tired of these AV programs that say your PC is infected by such and such virus and to fix it you MUST buy thier software now! or those TV commercials to speed up your PC "Now my PC is 150% faster", BS! It is now infected with spyware and countless other junk.

I have never had a problem with these things as I know better, but thier are far to many people out there that do not and fall victim to these shady practices that are out there.

I may be somewhat confused here, but that may be to do with how I never run virus protection (it USED to slow down my comp, I now convince all "older" people to get it though.. they're morons - only non-tech savvy people)

But seriously, I normally run without an AV, which isnt the smartest idea, but I make sure I know where I'm getting files from, and 'gasp' will call someone if they send me a message with a blank attachment...

bottom line, lets let these people who refuse to learn 'computer' get the viruses, ruin their entire harddrives, and let it be. I am sick and tired of them (i guess unless you run a backup company) saying this and this need to be 'this' way.. while most of the the consumers I know don't have any issues.

What it really comes down to is middle aged people who - go to porn site - and then deny it.

/sigh

But hey, I guess geeksquad needs to make their money somehow....

There's about a 75% chance that the people who downrated that are porn-watching bittorrent users. I'm in the same boat you are - I have AV software, though, but never once for the past 6 years have I even came close to using it for anything other than tracking cookies. Avoid clicking on "Free Internet Speed Booster" and you'll be okay.
Look it up on Google with McAfee SiteAdvisor or something similar. At least the first 3 pages are rated as extremely dangerous.

Actually, my neighbour worked for an Antivirus company and they told him to produce viruses but he refused to make any and was laid off afterwards.

I'd be looking at the cell phone service providers as the source of the infection as they are raking in the extra cash from all the bogus txt messages....
