iOS offers you the date in Gregorian calendar format by default. however, some parts of the world use other formats, and accommodations for those are built into the operating system.

iPhone allows you to choose one from the two available formats other than Gregorian which are:

    ■Japanese
    ■Buddhist

Changing the calendar format in iPhone is simple, and the process can be completed in a few taps.

Here is how:

■Switch on your iPhone by pressing the Sleep/Wake button. (iPhone 4S in this demonstration.)
■Slide your finger on the screen (screen with the slide to unlock text) towards right to unlock the device.

■From the Home screen, tap Settings.

■Once the Settings interface comes up, tap the General option.

■On the opened General window, locate and tap International.

■Once the International interface appears, tap the Calendar option.

■From the available list on the Calendar window, tap to check the desired calendar format that you want to use in your iPhone. (I.e. Gregorian, Japanese, and Buddhist.)

■Once done, you can access the Calendar app with in the new calendar format on your iPhone.
