How to Replace the Fire TV launcher

If you are used to the grid Android menu view, the panoramic sideways view menu of the Amazon Fire TV can be a little bit boring. It will often require you to scroll over several stations before you get to your favorite station. Well, there are a few launchers you can install to replace the Fire TV stock launcher to give you that familiar Android smartphone look and this post will show you how to do that.

Turn on ADB debugging and ‘Apps from Unknown Sources’
The first step to changing your Fire TV launcher is to turn on the ADB debugging and ‘Apps from Unknown Sources’. Turning on the latter makes it possible for you to install apps not found on the Amazon store. To do this;

• Go to ‘Settings’

• Scroll to ‘Devices’

• Open 'Developer options' and turn on the ADB debugging and ‘Apps from Unknown Sources’

2. Open the 'Downloader'
You will need the ‘Downloader' to find the apps that you will need change the default launcher of your Fire TV. You will need to download the ‘Launcher Hijack V3’ and any other launcher that you admire like the ‘HALauncher’ or ‘Leanback Launcher’.

3. Download the ‘HALauncher’
You can get this launcher by going to the ‘Browser’ of your downloader and typing the URL text then click on ‘Go’.

Click on the ‘Download’ button and when the download is complete, click on ‘Install’.

4. Download the ‘Launcher Hijack V3’
You can find this app by visiting the URL text on the browser of your downloader. Click on ‘Go’ after you enter the URL. When the page opens, click on ‘Download'. After downloading, install the apk file.

5. Launch the ‘Launcher Hijack V3’
To easily find the apps you just downloaded, hold down the ‘Home’ button on your remote and click on ‘Apps’.

• Go to the bottom of the list to find ‘Launcher Hijack V3’ and click on it to ‘Open’.

6. Unhide 'System Apps'
The default Fire TV launcher is hidden and you need to make it open to change it. Click on the three dots on the right-hand corner.

• Unmark the ‘Hide System Apps’

7. Choose 'Custom Launcher'
On the list, you will see the custom launcher you have just installed.
• Click on it and it will ask you to set your launcher to HALauncher. Select ‘OK’
• Press the 'Home' key on your remote and it will take you to the custom launcher you just set and you can customize it as much as you want.

Something you forgot to include in this guide which users may run into is the "Accessibility service disabled" error, and how to counteract it which requires accessing ADB from a PC, and entering in the following line after installing Launcher hiJack: adb shell settings put secure enabled_accessibility_services com.baronkiko.launcherhijack/com.baronkiko.launcherhijack.AccServ
