Netflix on the Apple TV is a solid app when it’s working.
When Error 139 pops up, it means that the app can’t communicate with Netflix
servers due to an internet issue. The full error is 139:NFErr_MC_AuthFailure
with an accompanying message. Either of the two fixes below will resolve the
error without deleting any important data off of the Apple TV.
Restart The Apple TV Device
If you tend to use the Apple TV a lot, restarting it will
clear up many app errors related to memory. For Error 139, it will force the
app to authenticate with the servers once you start up the device again.
1. Unplug the Apple TV and Television from the power outlet.
2. Wait one full minute and then plug both of the devices
3. Netflix should now be operating normally.
Restart The Home Network
Since Error 139 is related to network connectivity issues,
restarting the home network is still one of the best way to get rid of the
problem. Doing this will temporarily cut off any device on the network that is
reliant on internet access.
1. Unplug the Apple TV from the power outlet.
2. Turn off the television.
3. Unplug the modem/router from the wall.
4. Wait one full minute and then plug everything in using
this order; modem, router and then Apple TV.
5. Wait for the modem/router to finish its boot up sequence.
6. Turn on the television and the Netflix app should now be
