Stardew Valley - Crops Guide

Stardew Valley is a game that is focused on farming. Farming can be for both crops and animals but the leader in farming is crops. Crops are the best way to earn money so that you can spend it on getting the stuff you want or for improving your own farm. Growing crops is fairly simple. You need to hoe the ground first and then you plant the seeds, after you have planted the seeds you need to water them because without water none of them will ever grow. That is just the basics however because in this game crops are divided by seasons, some crops are better than others and some grow throughout multiple years. Here’s a guide on all of that.
Walkthrough:
The first thing you need to realize is that all crops are different and therefore each has specific growing times and seasons. Let’s divide the seeds by season and then discuss what is best to grow.
Summer:
Blueberry, Hops, Hot Pepper, Melon, Poppy, Radish, Red Cabbage, Starfruit, Summer Spangle. All these crops grow during the summer. They will die as soon as winter hits so you should be careful of that.

Spring:
The crops that you can grow in the spring are Blue Jazz, Cauliflower, Coffee Bean, Garlic, Green Bean, Kale, Parsnip, Potato, Rhubarb, Strawberry. These crops will only grow in spring and will die on the first of summer.

Winter:
You can only plant winter seeds in winter. They are a mix of Crocus, Crystal Fruit, Snow Yam and Winter Root. These crops can also be foraged from the wild.
Let’s talk about seeds now. There are plenty of places that you can get seeds from but there are only two ways to get them though. You can either buy them or you can craft them. Crafting seeds requires the recipe and the seeds that you craft are only the ones that you can forage in that season.
Buying seeds is easy. You can buy seeds from 3 places. The first is Pierre’s shop, the second is Joja Mart and the third is Sandy’s shop in the desert. You should never buy from Joja Mart as their prices are higher, but the other two places are fine.

Growing crops is easy but crowing a lot of crops and good quality ones can be tricky. The first thing that you should do is to invest in fertilizer because that is always worth it. It will improve the quality of your crops and you can even make it yourself from the sap.
You should keep in mind though that fertilizer needs to be put down before the seeds. You should also invest in sprinklers when you have the resources because watering crops every day can get taxing and very repetitive. Sprinklers are essential if you want a large harvest because by the time you get done watering all your crops it will already be noon.

You should also get scarecrows as they keep your crops safe from birds and you should build a well near your crops so that you don’t have to far to refill your can.
