Farming:
The farming skill is what it says. It is the skill which decides how well or how badly you can farm. This skill is levelled up not by planting seeds or watering them but by harvesting them. The quickest way to level up this skill is to plant crops that grow on vines. You only need to plant these seeds once and you can harvest them twice or thrice in the same season. This allows you to save time as they will take some time to grow but then take less time to bear fruit each time. This skill involves farming and the more you farm the better you get at it. It can also be improved while farming animals such as chickens and cows.

Foraging:
This skill is the one that is involved with the items that occur naturally throughout the game. This involves any vegetables, fruits and flowers that grow outside your farm like Holly, Winter Root and Salmonberry. It also includes what you can pick up when chopping down trees with an axe, so that means it also includes wood, hardwood, sap and tree seeds. To improve this skill all you need to do is to pick up all the items that you can find and winter and summer are a great time for that as there are a lot of things to pick up during that time. The desert is also a good place to increase this skill.

Fishing:
This skill is really simple as there are only two ways to upgrade this skill. You can either catch fish with a rod or you can collect the sea creatures that get caught in your crab pots. Keep in mind though that you can only increase the skill if you catch the fish. If it escapes you do not get any XP from the fish.

Combat:
Combat is also very straightforward. You can increase this skill when you fight and defeat monsters. This skill gives you more hp each time you level up and that is important when facing new and tougher monsters. It does not count the damage you deal instead it counts the enemies that you defeat.

Mining:
Mining is also very simple as it only requires a pickaxe but it is often intertwined with combat because of all the monsters that are in the mines. You can level up this skill by breaking rocks and ores and it grants you XP on what type of rock or ore you broke.
