Upload a Podcast to iTunes

Podcasts have skyrocketed in popularity. You can put audio shows about any topic under the sun on your tablet, phone, or MP# player. Want to make your own? After you do, here's how to upload it to iTunes so others can listen.

Step 1:
Record your podcast and save it in a format that is supported by iTunes. The podcast should be saved as with one of the following extensions: .mp4, .mp3, .m4a, .epub, or .pdf. If the podcast is not saved in one of these formats, you will have to convert it before uploading.

Convert Podcast to MP3
To convert your podcast to an .mp3 file for example, choose Media Files in Podcast. Then, select Get Info. Click on the Options tab and go to Media Kind. Here you will choose Music. The file is now an .mp3 and is available in your iTunes music library.

Step 2:
Upload the podcast to a web server. If you are doing your first podcast, create a new file in the web server. You will be able to save all future podcasts here.

Step 3:
The next step is to create an RSS feed for the podcast. You can find a number of RSS creation services available online, or you can create your own using a text editor. When the file is complete, you must save it with the extension .rss before submitting to the web server.

Step 4:
With your iTunes account open, you will go to the iTunes Store. At the top of the iTunes Store menu, click Podcasts. From the menu, select Submit a Podcast. You then type in or paste the web address for the podcast’s RSS feed. The podcast will be reviewed by the iTunes staff and then becomes live.

Create An iTunes Account
If you do not have an iTunes account, you can create one very easily. Open iTunes and click Create New Account. Follow the online instructions to create your account. It takes less than a minute.
