To replace my laptop's failing hard drive, where do I start in terms of what I need to buy? SSDs are small...do they fit laptops? Or do I need laptop specific hard drives?

The closest I've come is the Lenovo ThinkPad T440p. But I'm making some sacrifices. It has an optical drive (weight that I don't need) and the discrete graphics card isn't great. Perhaps someone knows something along these lines but better?
