First I went to BIOS (keep F2 pressed untill toshiba logo apears), disabled "secure boot" and changed boot mode from UEFI to "that other that I don´t remember now" (only 2 options), F10 to exit and keep changes. Insert the DVD or plug the USB pen drive with the bootable windows, again on startup...

desertking: First you must disable "secure boot" (it's in another page, search for it), only then the boot mode is available to change from UEFI to CMS.

Maybe RAM memory going bad... Try to make a memory/processor scan.

Does it gives a quick blue screen when it shuts down. Seems graphics card failure when it cools down after use

Still with Windows Vista?? Try to install the drivers and reboot but if it doesn´t show after instalation you may have to check for cables connection, if these are ok you may have to replace the adapter. I'm more into a missing driver, for system error or accidental uninstall...

In your friend did you use the same power adapter? I believe the speakers don´t need as much energy, so they plugged ok. I'm more into a power adapter problem.

Try unplug power adapter, remove battery and keep pressing power bottom for some seconds. Meanwhile you can try to remove and reinstall the memory's. Then make it boot. Let's hope that it will give you some more options, at least BIOS access...

Try with another hard disk. That one must be bad. You can try to make a clean install of windows 8.1 on that disk, it may go all the way and give problems after. I don't know how is that BIOS configs, but newer laptop have UEFI/CMS boot. CMS lets you boot from any device with apropriate bootable...

Hope I'm wrong bt seems that motherboard is dead... 17" paper weight. Does it gives any sign at all? Beeps, disk start, vents boost?? Try to find a new motherboard or new laptop and sell those good pieces.

Untill you buy and install the screen, you can use it conneted to external monitor or LCD TV using VGA or HDMI cable. You also test the graphics card (I think that is no problem there) and keep it working fine. If it doesn't work at first try you should have a Fn funtion to change the display to...
