    I've seen this happen several times. I've swapped out the battery and it makes no difference. The only way I've been able to fix the problem is to replace the motherboard. Run diagnostics and see if anything shows up.

    Dell XPS-15 laptops have two GPUs: an Intel for normal use and an Nvidia for graphics and gaming. It switches back and forth automatically based on what you're doing. You're absolutely right to get an SSD-based 9550, not the ones with the hard drive and 32GB SSD for file caching.

    Yes. Make sure to remove the battery first and ground yourself. The hard drive has a caddy that works fine for an SSD. You'll be amazed at the performance boost. The top-of-the-line 9550 models now come with Windows running on an SSD.
