Camcorder or DSLR or Mirrorless for Video Recording

For recordings (or streaming) of over 29 minutes, a DSLR is not suitable. A DSLR will generally produce better image quality than a similar class mirrorless. However the max recording length of every DSLR is 29 minutes. The max recording length of every mirrorless except for the panasonic GH...

Brand new Nikon D3400 SD Card Error message

The d3400 is not particularly sensitive to card speeds, and so I doubt that is the issue. Too slow a card and the camera will be slow and not very responsive, too fast a card and the camera will use it at the max speed it supports. Also, the camera supports pretty much every SD card out there...

Low light conditions: DSLR vs phone camera

DOF is exactly as I said. Focus is a plane. This plane gets thinner as the sensor gets larger, as the aperture gets larger and the focal length gets longer. You can google DOF calculations and more detailed explanations to enhance your understanding of the subject. There are times when a...

Pansonic Lumix G7 vs. G80 (Second-hand or new)

Neither is an upgrade to the d3100 except in video-focus speed. How important is video focus speed?

    Camera suggestions please!

The Sony is a full-frame. A great camera, but with a large sensor you need larger heavier lenses. If you want a inter-changable lens camera, the Olympus and Panasonic are the way to go. The entire kit will weigh much less and so should help with your muscle disease. The OM-D E-M1 mk2 is an...

Solved! Need help finding a new camera

You'll need new lenses as the 100d is a crop sensor and the full frame bodies need full frame lenses. How important is video vs stills? Video = get a mirrorless or deal with slow video focus. Mirrorless also = fewer lenses.

canon sx 60 or nikon b700 which one is better

The Nikon is two years newer and so has more updated components and so is likely to have a little better image quality. The Canon has a wider lens at the widest and so would get much more of the scene in a landscape. The canon can do 1080p video, the Nikon 4k. Both cameras are bridge cameras...

Low light conditions: DSLR vs phone camera

Short and simple: no As a physicist I am sure you understand that photons can't be created where none existed. There is no way a smaller sensor can compare with a larger one. There will always be more light hitting the larger sensor. A state of the art sensor in a camera can not compare to a...

Low light conditions: DSLR vs phone camera

If low light is your goal a phone is the wrong tool. The larger the sensor, the better the image quality. The best all around low light video tool is the Sony a7s II. But any DSLR with a good lens will kick the snot out of the best phone-camera ever. What is your budget?

Best camera for imaging and video

The Canon 80d is a hobbist camera. By all accounts it is a pretty good one. Not particularly good at sports, and not for high end video. The Nikon d500 is a pro grade camera. It is more rugged, better weather sealing, better auto-focus system. The video is ok, but it requires manual focus...
