Can you possibly install a USB optical drive? Sometimes you can get a usb with the OS on it. Maybe invest in a larger sized USB.

I think that the Asus Transformer Book T100 would be great for what you need and it's only $509...

I would try to run games like Thief and Battlefield. Also I live in Australia so there is a big price difference.
