Question ASUS Laptop Vivobook 17 Model X1704Za SO-DIMM RAM upgrade max size

According to Crucial, you can add up to a 32GB SO-DIMM. That would max you at 40GB. https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/asus/vivobook-17-(x1704)#tabs-DRAM-tab Your total memory will be the 8GB you have now, plus however much you install.

Given it's age, I suspect some part of the motherboard has failed. What, if anything, happened or changed just prior to this happening?

    Question unknown wifi network

Looks like they have hotspots all over the place. If you aren't a user, just ignore. There is no risk from these networks. You aren't connecting to them, nor the other way around.

You may need to consider a factory reset and then restoration of your files/messages, at this point.

Agreed on TV. Likely a component failing when getting hot. You can try a reset of the TV, but I suspect it isn't worth the headache/money to repair sadly enough. I am looking into the image thing. Seeing a similar issue when I post your link, both here and at TH.
