Is there a clever way to test the phone and car stereo to see which device is dropping bluetooth? I'd hate to replace my phone if the car stereo is the defective one!

I just wired up a new car stereo to my Toyota, and checked the source voltage with a VOM. The incoming voltage measured a constant 12V. However, when I connected the stereo, I noticed the presets won't hold. When I shut the car off, I lose all my settings. I wonder if a weak car battery can...
