Thanks for the response and the suggestions. Unfortunately, there was only one chip and I replaced it with no success. Also, took at the cmos battery and replaced it as well. Still Nada.

When I power up the laptop nothing happens except there is a light that blinks on the caps lock button. It is 3 slow blinks then 2 quick blinks. HP code instruction says it could be a bad memory chip. I removed the chip, put it back in, and it didn't help. Bought a new memory chip and still...
