I can't speak for much other than file formats. lets say .doc is a document in windows or mac, it's opened by supported program, be it MS-WORD or other. same like .jpeg it's still a picture, viewed on both system.

Like mentioned above, it really depends what this app is. But, I would try install it into the usb drive and see if it works. You got nothing to lose

What's the format of the photos? Which camera do you have? Is it possible (very unlikely) that you have PC software with the camera to access the photos?
