On the boot screen the hdd says it's frozen, someone told me it could be a virus I'm not too sure though

My acer e1 571 6680 has locked up. Says hdd is frozen, it's not the original drive that came with it I had to replace it because of a virus. Purchased a new one few months ago and it's doing the same thing. Acer logo appears then disappears, my question is can the erecovery disc from help me...
