The surface is a good choice as long as you will not be doing any gaming. The screen on it is by far the nicest one I have seen on any other 2-in-1 device. If you are in a major that writes a lot of papers, or if you take notes on your keyboard I would steer you away from the surface keyboard...

If you do any gaming make sure it has a dGPU in it. The Spectre x360 has the option for a gt930m, but lenovo and asus both have options for a gt940m in some of their flip notebooks.

I have had pretty good luck with HP laptops. I am currently using one with a 3rd gen i7 that has held up quite well. The only problem with my current one is no dGPU, so CS GO runs at ~22FPS at 768 and ~50FPS at 640x480.. The slow HDD doesn't really bother me to terribly much and I may switch it...
