@helpstar, thanks for the info and my apologies for forgetting to reply. The issue is solved as you mentioned, but in an interesting way. All of the traditional methods to upgrade failed. On the third try, the error number indicated that one of installed apps are not compatible with v1909. So...

My new Acer Aspire 5 - unable to update/upgrade Windows 10 Home from 1809 to 1903 or 1909 with any of Windows upgrade schemes. If I fresh install the generic Windows 10 1909 from a live USB, what problems am I looking at? I am less concerned with drivers than with the product registration.

I agree that they don't offer the fastest cpu's but I had an opportunity to use the latest ~13" regular Macbook which now has SSD and it was very impressive, This includes speed, the screen quality, the thinness and the lightness.

I don't know about if your specific requirement are met, but if money is no object, as far as quality and OS stability, nothing beats a Macbook. You can find decent answers to your questions from an Apple/Macbook forum.

The best all around is Eset from Australia but it's not free. Free would be Avast.
