    970m would be a lot better based on this comparison: http://gpuboss.com/gpus/GeForce-GTX-970M-vs-GeForce-GTX-960M plus the $300 additional also gets you an SSD, not that it matters in gaming but overall your laptop will be faster especially in OS programs

    try to do a clean install, use DDU: www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html then reinstall driver for 980M, just select the latest driver, you don't need Nvidia to select it for you
