at a guess..... right click small speaker icon on far right of taskbar, click playback devices, right click on whatever output you wish to use, click on set as default device, click apply.

If it's a recent laptop, the hard drive should be a sata interface, same as desktop. can just remove & plug into you desktop using same cables as normal & transfer data. if it's an older ide interface drive, try something along the lines of...
