    A i7 would definitely be better, Photoshop and After Effects will benefit loads from the hyperthreading + clock speed boost. If you are doing 3D applications such as Maya or 3DS Max.     What Power Supply do you have? Alot of Laptops only have a small power supply/power brick just enough for their setup, your power brick will probably limit you.

    What Graphics card do you have, Because if you have a modern Nvidia 700 Series+ Graphics card then shadowplay might be a valid option, as it has no performance loss (basically) and can record 1080 60Fps (2560x1440 may be coming in the future).

    +1 For the above, Totally agree, i5 Processors are more for gaming and for what your doing, An i3 with Hyperthreading is more than enough.
