Let's make a sticky for dealing with viruses/malware

Nice thread. :D I always start a virus scan by running ADWCleaner (best download on bleeping computer,) which is really lightweight and gets rid of many viruses and bad registry keys. Most of the computers on which I've worked have had their CPU at near-max load or simply bluescreen after...

    So...how about that Sager NP9772?

Marcodoom, I completely agree. I got screwed after buying their laptop too, and they only offered a 1 month warranty. The laptop specs looked so promising though; it's such a disappointment. I never had any problems with the monitor, but I did get serious overheating issues. I bought the model...

Two options... only one can win

If you don't mind spending the extra cash there's an Acer selling new on Newegg for $580. I know it's pushing the budget a little, but you get a full 1 TB HDD, 8GB RAM, i5 4210U CPU, and 840m GPU. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314535&cm_re=840m-_-34-314-535-_-Product

Laptop charger works after beeing plugged in and out multiple times

Is the charger hot at all during this process, but then just 'warm' after it starts working? If so, that's an over Voltage/Amperage/Wattage issue, and you'd need a more powerful charger. Did you try different outlets? If you only tried on one you may just have a bipolar outlet. Is the...

You got a really good deal! LOL, don't worry about that second one - that one has an 8GB SSD; what would you possibly put on there? :P It also gives you 2GB less RAM on the same laptop for $50 extra, so you were much better off getting the cheaper one with 6GB of RAM and eventually buying...

That AMD one looks nice, and even though it's 28nm vs 22nm you get 4 cores.

I'd personally recommend an i3 over any other intel CPU, but for $400 you'd be pushing it - $500 would guarantee you an i3, but no SSD. Did you end up buying a laptop? If so do you have a link you could post here? :)

Is an i5, 8GB RAM, and 128 GB SSD overkill for school laptop?

@bigbobby1, did you already make your purchase? And if so can you post a link of what you bought? :D @MooneyBA1, ...lol. 10/10. The reason why I recommended the laptop with the i7 and dedicated GPU was because it was just a hundredish dollars over the price limit, but he'd get near-mid-tier...

    1. Go to Costco (if you don't have a membership have a friend with one go with you and pay him/her back,) 2. Find ANY laptop there that offers the best Intel CPU for $350 3. Buy a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB off Amazon (or somewhere cheaper) for $125. Congrats, you now have the perfect school laptop.
