I'm looking for surfing and installing Steam for a few crappy games. I need the 4GB for Pillars of Eternity (at least at launch).

AMD A8-6410 Processor
4 GB DDR3L SDRAM
500 GB 5400 rpm Hard Drive
13.3-Inch Screen, AMD Radeon R5 graphics
Windows 8.1

or

Intel i3-4020Y 1.5 GHz
4 GB DDR3L SDRAM
128 GB Solid-State Drive
13.3-Inch Screen, Intel HD graphics 4400

Thank you T-Hardware!

more cores are not always better, intel processor is faster percore as well as it has hyperthreading so its a virtual 4 cores.

It would all come down to price. If they are the same, that's a really hard decision. The Intel has less cores and less speed, but much much better architecture, quality, and reliability. Looking at the requirements for Pillars of Eternity though, I don't think either processor is strong enough.

that is where youre wrong. the intell processor is faster per core. ghz means nothing in this case. amd option will have more heat because of the hdd.

I updated my reply because i noticed the error I made. You posted this in response to my deleted reply.

Oops I completely forgot about graphics. I don't think either of the laptops you are choosing from are powerful enough. They don't even meet the minimum requirements of Pillars.

LMAO!
Thanks, Mod.

I actually prefer Intel to AMD, but according to benchmarks that AMD CPU performs better than that Intel CPU.

Do you think they are both comparable with 2d games etc? I like your thought process.

I wasnt even being bias. lol. its the option between two. Its clear that the intel one will perform better overall. and less heat.

No one was specifically mentioned or targeted. Just trying to head off the trainwreck that the other dozen AMD v Intel threads have become.

For our intellectual benefit mind if you could post sources indicating that the i3-4020Y is better than the A8-6410?
My source indicated that the integrated GPU is only 1% better than the AMD, but AMD seems to be 17% better.
...obviously the Intel CPU will stay cooler - lower clock speed and less TDP, and the 22nm lithography makes it more efficient, but at those lowered clock speeds (in comparison, because I know 22nm at 2.0Ghz can perform better than a 32nm at 2.4Ghz, but there's a much greater gap here) what makes the Intel CPU better?
