Thank you for your interest. Yes, my soundbase does support ARC. I did get Apple TV audio signal to soundbase after switching soundbase setting to 'HDMI control' to 'ON" . I did not need to have the TV sound selected to 'external speaker'.

I have a samsung tv(ES1750 series), optimum set top box(STB), srt-1500 soundbase(SB) and apple TV 2nd gen . Soundbase has 1 HDMI in and an HDMI out. I connected STB to SB HDMI 'in' and SB HDMI 'out' to TV 'HDMI 2 (ARC)'. I attached apple TV to TV HDMI 3. TV sound set to external speakers...
